A humble heart. Biblical lessons for kids part 3.

Proverbs 11:2

¨When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom¨.

We all deal with pride at some point in our lives. It´s when we feel so proud of ourselves and our own acomplishments that we think we are better than another. There´s nothing wrong with being proud of something you have achieved. Like being proud that you can tie your own shoelaces, or when you make a score during socces practise. But when you start to feel like you know and are better it becomes a big problem.

God wants us to be humble. Always reconising that we are in need of Him and that everything we have (Including our acomplishment) come through Him. He´s the one that has build our body and our brain afterall. :) He always deserves the glory for all we do and achieve.

Pride is also what got satan kicked out of heaven. So it really is a big deal to God.

James 4:6

¨God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble¨.

Today I want to do a lesson on pride. When we learn what it is, we can reconize when it starts to grow in our hearts and quickly repent from it. Giving it no space to grow fruits so that we can always be used by God to do His good work.

What you need:

- Two containers.

- Two waterproof hearts. (I build mine out of lego, but you can use beads, prepare a clay heart, plastic etc etc.)

- Water.

- A hammer.

- A nail.

- Your freezer.

- Optional: Food coloring the color the water with.

If you have a whole day for this lesson, you can use one container and one heart. The water will need to be frozen for the second part of the lesson so you can take it out of the freezer later. If you do not have the whole day, then prepare the first container the night before and pop it in the freezer so you´ll have it ready during the lesson.

As you grow up from a child to a young adult you receive allot of information to help you grow in knowledge. You trust that what you learn from the ones that are your teachers (Your parents and any other teacher figure in your life) is the truth.

This container represents you. This heart is inside of you and this water represents all the information you´re receiving that is filling you.

*Put the heart in the container and let your kids fill the container with water.

as you grow older the information you have gathered sets, like a writing in a stone. This in now your truth. You base your life and filter everything you see happening through this information.

*Set the container in the freezer.

The water in the container will now slowly harden in the freezer, just like the information slowly sets in your heart as you grow older.

*Once frozen, take out the container.

The bible speak of a humble heart vs a prideful one. What is the difference?

Some of the things we believe are true and some are not. Things people may have spoken over you, information about something you may have gathered and things you believe about yourself may not be fully true.

God wants you to walk in complete freedon and to do that you need to know the truth which is based on His word.

A prideful heart says: ¨I already know better¨, ¨I´m smarter than you so I will not listen¨,¨I don´t believe in what the bible says¨.

When you have a prideful heart, you learn things the very hard way. You have to experience very hard situations so that you can see with your own eyes that you do not know it all and can not live life without God.

* Let your kids chip at the ice with a nail and hammer.

You see it is hard to get all of the lies out. You´d have to break it all and then sort it out. God is a loving and gentle God and really wants to help you be free from the lies you believe. If you have a humble heart it makes this allot easier. Someone that is humble understands that they do not know everything and are always wanting to learn more about what God says.

a humble spirit has childlike faith in what God says, just like the young child that is eager to learn from his/her parent.

*Now pour some hot water over the ice and let it melt.

God loves a humble heart because He can pour all His wisdom into this person, washing away the lies they once believed and replacing it with truth. When you´re humble God can pour and pour and pour His love and wisdom into you untill you overflow. Washing away everything that should not have been there.

The bible says in Matthew 18:3

¨Truly I say to you. Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven¨

The Kingdom of heaven is, thanks to the Holy spirit, already accesible here on earth. It´s when we walk in the power of the Holy spirit and are able to pray for people and see them set free and healed.

So when we choose to stay humble and let God pour into us we get to do the awesome things Jesus did to help other people find their way back home to God.
